Prenatal care

It’s important for you to go to the doctor during your pregnancy. Your first doctor’s visit for your pregnancy should be before you’re 12 weeks pregnant. Once you find out you’re pregnant, please make an appointment with an OB/GYN.

Labor and birth

Choosing a hospital

Which hospital you have your baby in usually depends on your doctor. When choosing an OB/GYN, be sure to ask where they can deliver your baby. The doctor will usually have a few options.

View our list of in-network hospitals. You can have your baby at any of these hospitals if your doctor can deliver there.

Pre-register at a hospital

You can usually pre-register at a hospital before you deliver. Pre-registration is just visiting the hospital to let it know you want to have your baby there. You can also take a tour of the hospital and ask questions about the hospital’s policies. This will help you get ready for the big day!

When you pre-register, you’ll fill out the required forms and give your insurance information. That way you don’t have to fill out paperwork while in labor. It also helps the hospital plan for your arrival.

Prior authorization

You or your doctor must call Nevada Health Solutions at 702-216-1653 for prior authorization if your hospital stay will be longer than:

C-sections (cesarean)

Your body was created to make and have a baby. It’s best to have your baby vaginally if you don’t have any health issues. A C-section is major surgery and should be avoided if possible. If your doctor wants you to have a C-section, call the Advocacy Line at 702-691-5665.

Copays and costs

We try to keep your healthcare costs low for your pregnancy and childbirth. If you have questions about how much prenatal care is or how much the birth will cost, call the Advocacy Line at 702-691-5665. Health insurance for your baby

Once your baby is born, you’ll want to make sure he or she has health benefits. You should add your baby to your health insurance plan within 30 days of birth so there is no lapse in coverage. A birth certificate is needed to enroll your newborn as a dependent.

Birth certificates are available from the Southern Nevada Health District. Visit the district's Birth Certificates webpage for more information.

You have 30 days after birth to enroll your newborn as a dependent. Be sure to bring your baby’s birth certificate to our Customer Service office.
